17: Utility Players

This week, our picks are from formidable multi-talents. Whether they're lawyers, psychiatrists, economists, musicians, or actors in their day jobs, these over-achievers decided to add "author" or "director" to their accolades. The results are glorious. And also make us feel inadequate.

Also in this episode, Amy and Erin reveal their side talents (and failings), wonder how they can get a pair of big scissors for ribbon-cutting (and Christmas gift unwrapping), and praise our listeners to all who will hear.

One of our amazing listeners, Adam, is responsible for this wonderful episode. He wanted to hear about one-hit wonders. We took it further: these are the people we're confident are NOT one-hit wonders!

_____________

Our picks this week:

Fiction Books:

Amy: Gather the Daughters, Jennie Melamed

Erin:  Miracle Creek, Angie Kim

Other Books:

Amy: Girl in a Band, Kim Gordon (Memoir)

Erin: Freakonomics, Steven D. Levitt (Non-fiction)

Pop Culture:

Amy AND Erin: Booksmart, directed by Olivia Wilde (Movie)

Broads and Books is a book podcast, a funny podcast, and a feminist podcast. And you'll find we're one of the best podcasts. Each week Amy and Erin choose a unique theme. Then we choose two fiction books, two other genre books (short story collections, memoir, non-fiction, true crime, poetry, etc.), and two pop culture picks based on that theme. We surprise each other with our picks, talk about why we like them, and give you unexpected recommendations for every reading taste.

Along the way, we share embarrassing stories, unachievable reading lists, amazing business ideas, and so much more. We also update you on our mascot, Podcat, and her latest attempts to kill us. Broads and Books is fresh, funny, thought-provoking, and basically the best time you'll have all week.

Broads and Books is a book podcast. A funny podcast. A feminist podcast. It’s a weekly date with two Broads who love books as much as they love embarrassing stories and crackpot business ideas. Every Wednesday, the Broads pick one theme. We choose and discuss two novels, two other genre books, and two pop culture picks based on that theme. Listeners will laugh, think, and find things they’re going to love.
